About

Blessed Father McGiveny,  Our Founder

Father Michael J. McGivney, a Catholic priest from Connecticut, founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882 with a mission to support Catholic families in times of hardship. Recognizing the financial struggles of immigrant Catholic families, he established the organization as a fraternal society that provided spiritual guidance and financial assistance to its members. Father McGivney’s vision was deeply rooted in the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity, ensuring that Catholic men had a strong support system to rely on. His commitment to faith and service led to the rapid growth of the Knights of Columbus, transforming it into one of the largest Catholic fraternal organizations in the world. In recognition of his devotion to the Church and his impact on Catholic communities, Pope Francis declared him "Blessed" in 2020, a step toward sainthood.
