History of Knights of Columbus Council 10010

Founding and Early Years
The Knights of Columbus Council 10010 was established in 1985 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Gallatin, Tennessee. The council was founded by a group of dedicated Catholic men—Jim Byrd, Don Slepski, Bill Connelly, and Dave Neville—who sought to bring the mission of the Knights of Columbus to their parish and local community. Since its inception, Council 10010 has upheld the fundamental principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism, actively working to support both the church and those in need.

Association with Bishop David R. Choby
A significant figure in the council’s history is Bishop David R. Choby, who served as pastor of St. John Vianney Catholic Church from 1989 to 2006 before being appointed the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Nashville. During his time at the parish, Bishop Choby provided strong leadership and spiritual guidance, fostering a deep sense of community among parishioners and supporting the work of the Knights. His commitment to Catholic education, vocations, and pastoral care made a lasting impact on Council 10010, which later honored his legacy by adopting his name.
